That is so odd, I was just talking to Kevin Hoagland about the Bahde claim on Sunday at the Dayton Gold show. We visited the claim last November to do some dry washing and metal detecting. Being from Ohio and mostly doing river dredging, it was learning experience to say the least. Kevin said you can still find gold here but you need to know where to look. (up high on the benches). We found fine flour and small flakes when we went but I feel we would have had better luck with better equipment. (I used a hand crank and Shad had more of a relic finder detector). I will definitely go back to tackle it again now that I am prepared.
Yes, you can camp but we did not camp in November as it was cold. We stayed in Chloride at Shep's Mining Inn (very quaint and historic) and drove each day (about 45 min) in a rental Jeep Cherokee 4x4 which performed just fine. The claims are huge and it did not appear to be over hunted. I am determined to conquer this claim again. I am pretty good at finding lots of gold in the Midwest but the desert is a whole different ballgame. Best of luck!
