Is there boondock camping available for a 40 trailer at or close to the claims Is it an area where we can set up a highbank and process some dirt Is it easy to find and get the claims I emailed the chapter president for that area and asked for some insight but no return. Seems par for the course when trying to communicate ...

10 Replies and 1753 Views Planning the family's first claim outing  1753  10 Started by  rockyegner@hotmail.com Brand New Member here. I live in KY and trying to plan our family's first claim outing. Its probably to big a piece to bite off and chew for the first time but, I'm chomping on the bit to just to get out there, prospect and find gold on my own without paying for it in pay dirt's. And now that I have access to claims, I rather take my chances finding it myself and in that pursuit hopefully learn some lessons from a experienced bunch of miners. The goal for our first year is to take a week (al...

I'm going to concentrate on looking for Bedrock with crevices in it where those Placer Gold Nuggets like to hide. I'm using my Minelab SDC 2300 to check all the Bedrock for any targets that might have moved around during the recent high water from this winters storms. It's always good to get out of the valley and the Mosquitoes this time of year...

1 Replies and 2867 Views Paydirt  2867  1 Started by  anthony.ingersoll2@outlook.com I am sure that we all know what paydirt is and how it works. Many times, I have seen people go crazy over the paydirt because they do not get dollar for dollar in the gold. I have often said that if you want gold dollar for dollar then you just need to go and buy gold bars, nuggets, or coins. However, with that being said there are benefits to the use of paydirt. I do buy paydirt on a fairly regular basis. There are a couple of major reasons that I do this. The first reason is to keep up on t...

I was wondering if anyone has a preferred place to buy pay dirt to pan with where you will find good color.  I ask because my 5 year old daughter has become bitten by the gold bug and I want to help 'cultivate' her understanding of the trade.  I my self am green at it all but have a couple trips planned with family and friends to go on a couple GPAA claims.  I want the pay dirt to make sure my daughter finds something.  Just looking for any suggestions.  Yes I know this ...

2 Replies and 1844 Views Stamp mill fines  1844  2 Started by  rocdoc888colorado@gmail.com I have some stamp mill fines from Blackhawk, Colorado. After screening them, I ran a few scoops with my gold pan. I'm seeing some very fine gold as well as some dark gray material (not black sands) which is heavier than the gold. I was thinking galena (lead ore), but although lead is heavier than gold on the periodic table, galena is less dense. Any idea what the dark gray material is and any suggestions on how to separate it from the gold Thanks for any information you provide.

The 2014 GPAA Guide (Lastest version, I believe) lists Angeles National Forest near Azusa California as Public Land on which prospectors can pan or sluice for gold.  However, upon visiting the website for that national forest, I find this statement:  'All mining operations (location of mining claims, prospecting, and mining, including panning, sluicing, and dredging) under the 1872 Mining Law are prohibited within withdrawn areas of the Angeles National Forest.  Public Law No. 57...
