New Mexico Gold Prospectors
Please join our Chapter. We are New Mexico Gold Prospectors, located in Alamogordo NM, a Chapter of the GPAA. We are free to join, and hold our monthly meetings at The Desert Lakes Golf Course. Our members range in experience from the beginner to the seasoned pro, each willing to make you feel welcome and share the wealth of knowledge they have on how to find gold and treasure.
Our Chapter's Mission
We strive to provide a family oriented environment where members can mingle and share the passion for prospecting & treasure hunting. We also work to educate the community about prospecting by participating in local events, by putting on a gold prospecting class on at the local university, where our chapter teaches children and adults alike about how to prospect and pan for gold. The New Mexico Gold Prospectors actively promotes the GPAA (Gold Prospectors of Association of America) and the PLP (Public Lands for the People) who are constantly fighting for every American's right to enjoy public lands and the right to prospect on them.
Our Chapter Meetings
Please join us at the 19th Hole Bar and Grill, at the Alamogordo City Golf Course, 2351 Hamilton Rd, Alamogordo, NM 88310. We meet on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 pm. Just walk through the restaurant to the back and look for a bunch of funny and noisy people. The restaurant offers a full menu, so come early and eat around 6:30 if you want. To top it off, we hold one of the best raffles around, bar none. Members and guests have the opportunity to win mining equipment, gold, and much more. We look forward to meeting you and having you join us on one of our many adventures.
Our Chapter Outings
As a rule, we meet on the Saturday following each meeting. Our dig is in an old mining town - Orogrande, NM. We try to meet on a Sunday at least twice a year. So please call first before showing up, the number to call is 575-430-4697. We always have a "common dig" starting about 8-9 (depending on time of year) until around noon. There is always something for every member to participate in and learn.
Directions for Outings
While traveling on Highway 54 between El Paso, TX and Alamogordo NM, you will turn West at mile marker 30, just seconds north of Orogrande, NM. Take the first right after the cattle guard, follow the road for approximately 1 and 1/2 miles. You will turn to the left 50 yards before the huge water tank on your right, where you will see our parking lot. We have turned a desert hill into a parking lot. If you get onto a road that seems impassable, your lost, stop and call for rescue :) Or back up, and get back to Highway 54, because the road to the claim is in such good shape that you can take a Cadillac into it.
