Learning to read the river 3660 2
Started by crashcrain@gmail.com
Learning to read the river can be very frustrating for new prospectors but there is a simple trick that will help you get on the gold.
Take a metal detector and walk back and forth across the river, when you get a good hit stick some sort of marker on that site, and then follow that signal up and down the river because what you are looking for is a line of black sands, your gold will be in that line. A great deal of the time places I thought would be perfect I found nothing yet fr...

Started by rickaroberson@gmail.com
So new member. I'm looking at 2 claims, Brushy Creek Aquamarine Mine and Crabtree Emerald Mine. Both in Mitchell County, NC. There is absolutely no more information about them. I have no problem doing some legwork, but could someone point me in the direction of how I would go about finding out the location and rules

So I look through the guide and find a claim I wanna go to, I pull up my topo maps and map out my plan, I Google map the location just out of curiosity and find that they've built a house at the corner of the claim, they're literally building homes on our gold, the house is on the NW corner of the Calamity 8 claim near Rock Springs AZ, anyone else running in to this

Southern California, need camping / prospecting recommendations! 2486 2
Started by Chadstreet1@gmail.com
I am looking for a location that myself, my wife and another couple could camp and do some light prospecting. Looking for somewhere within a few hours of LA. We are all experience backpackers and have a proper 4wd vehicle to get us out there. Ideally it would be fairly remote.
We have a sluice box, bucket, shovel, a few gold pans and a metal detector.
We do not need to have a fire, we have camp stoves and are fully self sufficient when it comes to food/water for consumption.

New Michigan Member looking for spots to pan. 23212 33
Started by kenredington@hotmail.com
Good day,
I am a new first time member and had a question. I live in SE Michigan and was wondering if there is anyplace to practice panning. I see reports saying there is placer gold all over the place and it has been found here in Oakland county (North of Detroit). Problem is I have also seen writing stating that the DNR seems to discourage panning with all sorts of rules. Being as I have no desire to break the law just where can we pan here

black sand away from Gold? 5532 9
Started by kenny.stites@gmail.com
Last fall I bought a miner's wheel. I have screened my sand down to 1/8' and run it several times, I still have rocks( not gold) in the cup and in the bottom of the wheel. I hate panning, kills my back and knees. I know there is plenty of Gold in the sand as have seen it. I've used twisters to get a couple of chunks that were just smaller than pickers out. I can't decide to just snif all the black sand and gold then heat the fry pan to get rid of the water, and run a magnet over it to remove the...

New Member in NW Arizona looking for advice 5221 6
Started by twistedwanderings@icloud.com
Hello. we just moved to the area and got our first detector. (Minelab Xterra 705 Gold). We joined GPAA for the education in the hobby as well as access to the claims that GPAA has. I was wondering what to expect when we visit the claims that GPAA has as far as other people, and if the area is friendly. We are looking out by Dolan Springs, AZ Specifically.
Thanks and we are excited to get out and see what we can find!
