2 Replies and 5962 Views Gold Basin - First Time Drywashing - Need Pointers for Pay layers  5962  2 Started by  ryan.weidert@gmail.com Hello All,     I'm headed down to Arizona (from Colorado) for my first attempt at desert gold prospecting. I am thinking of Gold Basin for dry washing (as well as some meteorite hunting) and was hoping to glean some tips as to what to look for in that area regarding the gold bearing gravels. I've been reading (and watching) whatever I can about it, and know that the gold is found in the gravels on top of the caliche false bedrock, which typically is 1-5' thick. Ive read that some area...

3 Replies and 4240 Views LDMA Outings  4240  3 Started by  lauriespicer27@icloud.com I'm a new member of the GPAA and currently looking into participating in a LDMA Outing in 2015. Being on the East coast of the U.S.A. it appears that Loudmine and Vein Mountain are the easiest to attend. I was wondering if anyone had any input as to which outing would be best as a first timer. Also is there any significant difference between the June Outings and the October Outings other than the weather Are there RV's available to rent at the camps or is it camp with what you bring T...

0 Replies and 3442 Views Coin Shooting  3442  0 Started by  kevn4332@yahoo.com Not really a GPAA thing but I've been into doing some beach metal detecting lately. I have a Garrett AT Gold and it does good in the dry sand but anything near the wetness and it goes south REAL FAST. I knew that the Gold wasn't up for salt water like the Pro so nothing shocking. I spent 2 days at the beach and got little reward. Today I went to a local park and Scored. 37 pennies, 20 nickels, 20 quarters, 2 dollar coins, a silver ring, some foreign coins. Not like finding a nugget but it was pr...

1 Replies and 6424 Views Ramona Ca's Warrior Claim  6424  1 Started by  kevn4332@yahoo.com Took a drive up to Warrior today to check it out.. I didn't get there til about 1pm & with sundown at 430 ish I wasn't about to traverse into the canyons.  I'm gonna head back out there early in the morning, but from what I could see from atop, that is one hell of a potential. Right now it's a dried up riverbed that is in a DEEP canyon and runs for a couple of miles. The claim guide says that you can use a detector, dry washer, or even a sluice(I'm assuming when it rains. I certainly wo...

4 Replies and 7091 Views Spiral wheel  7091  4 Started by  farrier@gci.net I've been busy prospecting this summer and have been saving all my black sand with fine gold from several locations. I've also been thinking very much about buying a spiral wheel to clean some of it up as well as use the heck out of it in the future. I've been reading up but how much can a guy really trust what he reads when the writer is the seller. I'd be amiss if I didn't get some opinions on their use and which ones actually are worth it. I'm a middle of the road kinda guy but am willin...

8 Replies and 7573 Views Fever confirmed  7573  8 Started by  kevn4332@yahoo.com Ok, So yesterday was my official breaking of ground in search of the good stuff. That's as greenhorn as it gets right. I went on a GPAA claim in San Bernardino Mts.(Yes I'm a member) I went there the week before but couldn't find the claim. This time I went straight to it. Anyways, I went into the thick of it and could see spots that others had dug. I looked at the terrain and didn't go to the current dried up stream flows but looked at it with a longer timeline.... Then I picked a spot and sta...

My garmin 62sc handheld only inputs with minutes.   SO, my question is if I have say,, (and this is a fake coordinate btw)    100 12' 34.567' N      Could I input it as 100 12.34567' N and get the same result If not, I need to find out how to format my garmin to show what the book has for coordinates. 5 Replies and 8492 Views Highbanker question - shut down or not?  8492  5 Started by  rhunt01@ius.edu Hi: I just finished my new highbanker and did my first test run.  See it run at https://www.youtube.com/watchv=n9vMd3IXsu8 If I needed to take 15-20 minutes to gather more material, is it better to shut down or let it run.  My concern is that the surge of shutting down would blow out material.  On the other hand if I run for a long period without feeding, do I risk losing gold  I am using deep V matting on the top 2/3 and vortex on the lower 1/3.  Third option i...

1 Replies and 3697 Views Video Uploads and Online Publications  3697  1 Started by  senorclay2@gmail.com I just read an issue of Gold Prospectors magazine using the new Online Publications feature. When I got used to the way to navigate and size the pages, I soon got the hang of it. I like it a lot. I do receive the magazine and will continue to do so for when I might want to review an article in the field where I might not have access to the internet. But, using the new feature was nice too. I highly recommend it. The opportunity to post video files is going to be interesting. I look forward ...
