Question that I get a lot:

 "So you are saying gold is not heavy and it floats?"

Answer I give:

Yes and no ---- actually it all depends on the shape of the object. You can make it float by giving it a very flat surface.



Compare this with the ships mostly made of iron (which is way denser than water), which float on water. But an iron nail will sink!



The density of gold is much higher than water, but it all comes down to the shape and the Archimedes principle:

 "Any object, wholly or partly immersed in a fluid, is buoyed up by a force equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object."



Surface tension may hold a thin leaf of gold on surface of water, but if you shape the leaf properly the buoyancy (which has nothing to do with surface tension) itself can make it float.

Now get some Jet Dry add a drop or two and watch the heavies hit bottom.
