What Areas Near Sacramento To Detect? 19555 4
Started by Brandon.Johnson1970@yahoo.com
I'm much newer to detecting and looking for areas that it is acceptable to swing a detector for gold.
Okay, I hear desert areas are the best for metal detecting and in the dry washes, but I'm not familiar enough with the Sacramento Area to have an idea where to go that is not on private land, not already claimed, or that LLEA (Local Law Enforcement Agency) won't have an issue. Example, I didn't know there was a public land area around the Sutter Buttes, but apparently there is area...

Fisher Gold bug detector as a first? 10345 4
Started by cowboybrj81@gmail.com
A local pawn shop is selling a fisher gold bug for about 400, it looks like it is in good condition but wanted to get a feel from the community if it is a good deal (in general terms). It looks like I would need to buy headphones for it. Please let me know what you guys think.

Arizona metal detecting 13438 9
Started by tpleibel@gmail.com
I am planning a trip to Arizona and then on to the Motherlode of California to go metal detecting. I asked one native I trust and was advised February is the best time to go. Any other native Arizonans or members familiar with Arizona want to chime in. I was thinking near Rich Hill Or even closer to Prescott. Any other suggestions

MXT - alive and well 4274 0
Started by waugh1198@gmail.com
Finally got around to digging the MXT out of one of the rigs it was in......Been in there for 5 years, with batteries in the box. Got lucky and only had 3 terminals to clean up, and it didn't get into the boards. Had 9 volts with new batts after cleaning, went back in and hit terminals again and finally wound up with 12 V. Bought it for the wifemate, I used it twice, she never did. Now I have to try and learn it all over again and better than last time. Reading...

Got the boot twice in two days 12279 8
Started by Stealthbobber2006@yahoo.com
So I was detecting in a park a couple days ago in downtown Pensacola, Fl. I was glad to be there because this is where music in the park is held on Thursday evenings. I figured this would be prime area for finding coinage and jewelry. Shortly after I started a couple guys come up and tell me this is a historical site and no mding allowed, but, if I go just across the street to the other side of the road on what I thought was the same park, I would be good to go. I said ok, and thanks for...

Metal Dec None Detect in Quartz 6026 3
Started by admin@nicoradv.com
In this video this person states that a GPX missed the gold in the rocks that the Minelab 777xx pickup.
https://www.youtube.com/watchv=toFvZQy1L-8
The bucket of material he shows looks like quartz rocks (most of it it seems).
I have some quartz rocks that came from a claim that is heavily minerialized, lots of black sand in the dry creek beds.
Some pertrified wood with some mineral veins and lots of iron pyrite.
My AT Gold does not sound off on any of the quart...

A NEW PLAN
Back when I first started out in this great hobby going out to a well known placer gold field was the best way to be sure of scoring a nugget or perhaps a handful on a weekend outing, but over the last 15 years there has been much change. In 1990 when I picked up my very first 'Gold Nugget Detector' this was still a fairly new way of consistently finding gold nuggets and many an 'Old Timer' a fellow talked to would laugh and say 'Wasting your time Mister', well that was t...

Minelab GPX 5000 or Garrett ATX, which is better? 64251 25
Started by fritzj8@yahoo.com
I am interested in the pros and con of buying a Minelab GPX
5000 or Garrett ATX. I have seen several
videos on YouTube and have read several reviews on the Internet comparing the
two. Initially, I was leaning toward the
Minelab GPX 5000 but after seeing how it missed smaller gold at shallower depths
and the GPX didn’t, my opinion is slowly changing. Both were used with a double D coil during
the comparison. However, the Minelab seems
to still be better at fin...
