A beginner's question 10459 10
Started by Brandon.Johnson1970@yahoo.com
I'm very new to using my Garrett AT Gold, or metal detecting in general for that matter, but I had an interesting thing occur that I'm hopeful someone might be able to explain.
I was down at the Nancy's Gold claim and thought I would try out my metal detector. There is some bedrock that is exposed on the claim and I wanted to swing over it to see if there might be anything in the cracks or in the area I could pick up. I began getting some hits in the 90's plus, but there is only bed...

***THE CLUES TO FINDING GOLD & SILVER*** 6886 0
Started by frankn1937@hotmail.com
Well, now that I got your heart really pumping, here it is.
I have just had 2 eye operations and I am just starting to see clearly
so I am jumping into my research mode. I lust picked up a book
by Eugene L. Conrotto called ' Lost Gold & Silver Mines of the
Southwest'. The thing that go me is some of the listings look findable
using the 'clues' in the stories and other resources like old maps
and up to date topo's.
On page 200 is the story of the Duchman's Laguna Gold. Not to be&nbs...

Just got the at pro. I love it. It sure is a step up from the bounty Hunter I was working with before. So far I've only found trash with it, but only used it for a day in Phoenix. The ground here in Illinois is too frozen to dig. I'm heading back to Arizona next week though.

Totally new to metal detecting. Just got the minelab XTerra 705 and I am wondering where would such a detector have an easier time prospecting for gold
I live in Bakersfield California, and I have been looking at the GPAA claims out in the Mojave desert. I am wondering if anyone who has worked those claims with metal detectors could give me any input on those areas. Are people still finding gold out there Would an entry level detector like this have any luck or...

Gold Bug Pro Headphones 6581 1
Started by farrier@gci.net
I have a couple things on my list to research and purchase, and a new set of headphones is one of the things on it. I am using a Gold Bug Pro and am just about to order a pair of Gray Ghost either original or ultimate. However I would be wasting a resource if I hadn't asked for an opinion here. I'm remote so trying them on first is not a real good option. I've read plenty supporting the quality and comfort issues. There are a lot out there and even more to read about them. Any preferences o...

Recommendations for a detecting wannabe 6158 5
Started by jlh1958@earthlink.net
Hi everyone,
I have been prospecting for a few years, but have always wanted to add metal detecting to it. I live in Colorado, and much of the area has lots of black sand and other minerals.
I would love some suggestions for a good detector that is in the $700 or less price range that will be good for detecting gold in mineralized areas. Being waterproof would be a plus, too, but not essential. I have been studying up on the Garrett AT Gold Metal Detecto...

Feedback for Garrett AT Pro 10259 2
Started by cowboybrj81@gmail.com
Hello all,
I am looking at getting my first metal detector and have a budget of about a grand. I was looking at the AT Pro to do both nugget shooting and relic hunting. I need a very versatile detector as I am in the Army and move every couple years so have no idea where I will be prospecting, currently I am in the Kansas City area for a year. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I got my Mining Guide,2014 edition today. I did my usual fast scan and noticed the following.
-It states you must have the following, GPAA prospecting permit , GPAA membership card, But they were included!
They use to be in the front of the Guide.
- I use to be able to look under a state and get all the locations to prospect. Now they are scattered in several areas, Why
-It shows the counties, but only in the places of interest section!

Detecting fine gold with a detector. 8154 2
Started by frankn1937@hotmail.com
Well, I have been told that you can't do it and in most cases that is true, but there is an exception that has worked for me.
What makes it possible is that fine gold 'bunches' up on or under rocks in dry washes during the spring runoff from mountain deposits.
I have used a Surfmaster PI detector to locate find gold.
Method: Detect in the washes. When you get a faint signal, carefully pick up the rock and wipe it off IN A ZIPLOCK BAG.

Looking for a mentor 8112 5
Started by snow_dogg@msn.com
I purchased a GPX5000 last year. I've been to a 3 day training seminar, and plan on attending one more this summer. I'd like to find someone who wouldn't mind sharing some knowledge (GPX has been a little intimidating). I'm more than happy to cover fuel expenses and what not in trade for some valuable field training. I'm located in Boise, Idaho and don't mind travelling, even to eastern Oregon if need be. I'm a good listener and very motivated to become proficient with a GPX.

Metal detecting /Cache Hunting 7023 0
Started by frankn1937@hotmail.com
Well, in the Mid Atlantic area, raw gold in the ground is slim pickings so we fill in with some cache hunting for 'refined' gold.
I am presently looking for a cache from a stage robbery. I am working with a partner. He heard of an old robbery of a stage in the 1800's from some people who had looked for it. Thru research we found the stage stop where it occurred. The old stage stop, that was a tavern still stands. In the story, 2 guards on the stage heard that a robbery w...
