My brother and I will be spending 4 days at Roaring Camp in early September and will not be purchasing a pile of dirt. Anyone have any prospecting tips/suggestions that would help us maximize our chances of success there? We'll have gold pans, a few crevacing and digging tools and an Angus M sluice. Traveling from Ohio, I'm just excited to have a real chance to find anything but specks and flakes!

    Stephen,

Because us in California can no longer dredge, your chances for success are less than desirable in my opinion without a dredge.

The more material you move, the better your chances of finding something

Buying a pile may be a better bet for success.
If unwilling to do that, a few buckets, a "good" hand dredge, sieves, strong back.
    Maybe snipping tools, snorkel.

What ever you do, stop, take some time to look around and enjoy you surroundings.

Thanks, Bill! I am SURE I'll enjoy the surroundings, and given that we have just 3 days, we plan to work our butts off. We'll see....

    Stephen,

One thing to consider, I believe the 'pile' they provide comes from a mine on the property "Ceasers Diggings". Chances for something nice to take home are better than scratchin around the river.
You may want to ask once your settled in.
