We're heading down to Texas for vacation. Taking 35 down from Wisconsin. Are there any Gpaa claims that would within reason (mileage wise) to check out on the way down. The only thing I saw is a "pay to dig" site in Oklahoma. Any new or omitted claims not in a the book?

Randy, As far as I know the guide is up to date on that route at least. That is touch prospecting country along I 35. I know there is gold in Michigan, around Athens for sure as the LDMA has a claim there. Thee is a chapter in Round Rock Texas outside of Austin that is very Active, but they seem to go up to Llano a lot which would be a 200 mile detour. I could swear I heard about Oklahoma gold psospecting, just not sure where I heard about it. Good Hunting.

No claims in Texas. You are required to have an annual permit for the Llano. An exception is "The Slab" in Kingsland, TX but the gold is very elusive. Try a Google search on "The Slab" and Kingsland SLAB RV Campground. Another area that is not well known is the Kriver Campground on the Kiamichi river north of Antlers, OK. The river has been too high all summer but just dropped to prospecting level of 2 feet. Again a Google search will yield some info.
