I'm out traveling again, and find myself with some spare time in Denver.

I've got a small pan and shovel with me, and my GTI-2500.

So, I thought I'd get on the site and look up a GPAA claim near Denver. I just don't have room in my luggage to haul the map book around. Is there an online map book? How about a digital version of the map book?

    Many thanks,

    Larry

The mining guide is not online at this time. If you go to the chapters page on this site, the local Denver chapter should be able to help out. They might even be meeting this weekend.

You also might try to check in with Johnny Walker at Clear Creek Prospecting, if anyone in Denver knows where to go it's him.

He was very helpful when I went out there in November of 2013.   Him and his wife are really nice folks.

Phone number is 720-502-4984. Here is a link to their website: http://clearcreekprospecting.com

Hope this helps. Have a great time and good luck.

Since you are supposed to have the guide with you on claims, I would suggest photocopying the pages you are interested in to take with you.  That would take care of the directions and at least would be an attempt to comply with the directive of having the guide with you.

I have my membership  cards with me. I did not know that I had to carry the map book as well.

So everyone on a claim has a map book with them?

Perhaps allowing the membership a digital version would be a bit easier to lug around.

I had someone at home take a smartphone pic of a claim map and I'm going to go take a look. I'm not a hard core prospector- like it says, Greenhorn.

I do a lot of business traveling and I simply can't haul everything with me. Just my detector, a lesch digger and a small pan...

So, I made the trek to the claim. This is looking from the north to the hill in the claim. There used to be a large structure just to the left where the wires go, but it's been torn down.

This is the sign posted on the gate leading to the property.

Ammo everywhere. Shots fired all around, every direction. I think because it was a Sunday everybody was in the woods pulling the trigger.

I didn't do any digging and only stayed for an hour or so. Just a bit nervous with all the shooting.

This was a big learning curve as it was my first GPAA claim encounter.

Is the photo from a camera or a smartphone app and if so what app?

It might be worthwhile to metal detect where the building used to be. It is a shame people feel the need to leave trash laying around. As far as the sign goes, it is hard to read on here but I would think that the. GPAA claims department can call USFS and find out what is going on, especially if it closed due to an endangered animal and people are hunting there.

The app is Theodolite, I don't remember the cost, I've had it for a few years. I use it with my work- but it has some pretty cool features.

The sign said, "Special Occupancy Closure Order".

No dates given, no reason given. It was posted by the Clear Creek Ranger District and has zero amplifying information.

Hey Jesse, you might want to call the office next week and ask about it. You should have gotten a GPAA membership card and a GPAA claims card.

You are supposed to have them and your mining guide with you to have legal access to any claims.

Glad you found them. A little trick I did with mine was laminate them between clear packing tape to protect and keep them from getting wet.
