    hi friends,

just wondering if any one has gone out and worked the claim in pershing county in Nevada?  I went out their today and poked around with a VLF detector for about an hr until I got rained out.... wondering what your preferred method of hunting was?

Travis, Is this the claim near Imlay? I am going out to Reno next following week 9-14 and looking for a place to go detect for a day. I went to the claim listed in the book but I thought it was in Humbolt. It only seemed like there is 1 claim in the area.

Yes it is out in imlay.. And is the only GPAA claim in that area,, other than over by fernley there are a few I have not been too yet.. But if you head out too the imlay one use a GPS with coordinate.. I probly spent over an hr trying to find a road that got me somewhat close.. After I found the right mt road, it was narrow going up and even then I had to pull out the quad to finish going up the steep terrain..

If you guys are referring to what was listed as Temple1, I've been there and have no desire to go again! The road isn't too hard to find (just after the concrete bridge over the Humboldt) but the road narrows considerably and gets steep! Rattlers all over the place and some really steep drop offs. At one point, I had to make a three-point turn around a hairpin and I was driving a little Ford Ranger while looking at a very steep drop off! The final part was by foot as even the quad was spinning tires on the shale. With all the other areas to metal detect around Rye Patch this one is off my bucket list!

Yes that's what we were talking about, Nancy.. It was sketchy. I took my crewmax tundra up there just before the switch back and parked.. And going up on a quad was a bit rough but I was on my daughters 90cc honda quad just to get around..

wow yeah I bet that was where I was last year......I had the directions from the office and thought I was in the right place, but it wasn't too difficult. So, judging from your post maybe I was in the wrong place. I noticed many little holes in the ground and thought about snakes....but didn't see any. Now.....coincidence....I just watched a video from Kevin Hoagland and he was actually there on that claim. He did mention that it was snaky and he was detecting around and made comments it looked promising but needed more eval. He seemed like he didn't have that much time to do it and was gonna return. Mentioned something about next video. Said the ground was well mineralized.

Leo. We were there in September. We saw snakes from down near the bridge on the Humboldt River all the way to the top -- especially along the draw below the road. The area looks promising but I wasn't willing to go poking around the rocks! near the top we poked around the old head frame but didn't find anything promising. Beyond the head frame the road flattens out and there is a good vantage point and a good turn around. If you take the road to the right (before the head frame) it goes up to the claim but it is shale and we had to walk it. Again we didn't find anything while we were metal detecting. We brought a little of the dirt back to camp and ran it -- again without success. I took the metal detector out to the old Rye Patch RR siding (next to the freeway) and found a small brass railroad watch key and two others found coins dating back to 1800's. There are a lot of junk targets in that area so most don't take the time to detect it.

Yep, I poked around the head frame/ and what looked like a decline shaft but the entrance was filled up with tumble weeds and I wasn't about to get too close to the entrance.. I didn't see any snakes but its been cold here so I'm sure next summer I'll have to get some snake Sox.. I seen a few big holes but didn't look like too many people had been up there..
