I'm in a known gold area and prospecting several claims in the area. I'm using a Midas standard model and a "gold miner" spiral gold mining machine. I get plenty of black sand with both units but can see small flects of gold in the tailings and no gold from either machine. I believe both machines are set up correctly but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong so any suggestions can help.

Not sure on the Midas Standard, but, I too have a Gold Miner Spiral Panner (about 2 months old) and have found that a constant, clean source of water (set up in a stream or with at least 30 gals) will greatly aid in recovering the "float gold" and flour gold that often gets clay particles on it and then is lost. I also set my Gold Miner up a 1.5 degrees less in angle than recommended and keep the spray bar valve almost all the way open.

Make sure to use some Jet Dry or similar in the Gold Miner makeup water.

One thing to remember especially with clay soils,  Clay will bind or engulf and hold gold.  The material needs time to release the material inside the clays.  The issue with gold floating is due to a problem with the water surface tension.  If you have a recirculating water system for the finish water and use Jet Dry or some type of surfactant this will help the water tension issue and gold floating.

When finishing I have found it best for me to use jet dry or some type of surfactant to relieve the surface tension so the gold will not float.  We recirculate our water in this process to ensure constant surface tension.

    Hope helps some
