Was getting ready for an outing and fires my pump up. Northern Tool Northstar 2 inch hi pressure pump. Noticed a noise that was like something vibrating metal to metal. Could find nothing so I figured I would start with the easiest. Pulled the pump apart and checked everything. All seemed ok so I fired it up again , no noise now. Was dumbfounded so started cleaning everything up to put together. Started cleaning the housing and noticed 2 small cracks inside at the bottom near the drain. Looked at the outside and there was the "vibration" indent. There is a small angle iron crossmember that goes under the pump (no attached to the pump) They have a small cut-out to allow the housing to come off. Well they apparently did not make the cut out big enough and the housing was vibrating against this cross member. Was able to cold weld the crack and alls well but had I gone to the outing (a 4 day outing) that pump would have surely busted. So check your pumps.

Great advice! Also, make sure your foot valves are tethered as well. A cracked pump race or a lost foot valve will put a dent in your hibanking/dredging hours.
