My wife started with a GMT  and I use a 1990's gold bug m scope which is now the new gold bug 2. We have really high mineralized soil with every sulfide known to man here in Northern Calif. The Gmt  now sets in the trailer or is used as a loaner  and I like the new gold bug, simple, effective and light. She uses a Tessoro Lobo now  and loves it and uses a Garret  AT gold for the water. The Lobo is the most productive in her case and our soil but between the GMT and the gold bug 2 its the gold bug 2 hands down.

I have owned both the GMT and GB2. I still have the GB2. I think it is the better machine. Tom, the GMT is still a monster machine. But it should be operated in the MANUAL ground balance mode. More sensitive. Not that silly AGB mode.  TTC

The GMT is a great machine. It has many settings for the "Newbie" to get them detecting sooner. I currently have a GPX 5000 and a GB2. The GB2 takes a couple minutes to learn, and is incredibly sensitive to small gold, especially with the 6" Coil. little bigger learning curve, but nothing scary. I would have to say the GB2 is the more sensitive of the two. Also easy to get used to.
