Ok people. I just went on a 4 day trip to the "Nancy's Gold" claim in Placer county. This claim is spectacular and screams of nuggets!.

There is exposed bedrock, boulders galore and high above the north edge of the claim there is another claim with an ancient riverbed

of virgin ground. I saw this bench just as we were about to leave the claim after the four days. We inspected the bench and the material

was highly compact, bright orange and this particular part of the bench had a clear line of bedrock at the bottom of it which was positioned

nicely at our feet as we stood on the hillside. I looked toward the direction this ancient river had flowed and lo and behold I was looking

right at the inside bend of the river on the Nancy's Gold claim. On our trip we were unable to access that side of the river because we

couldn't find a way down the ravine on that side. This claim is several hundred feet below the road and has moderately steep, but doable

paths down to the river, but not on the side of the inside bend (not that I found anyway). We spent the whole trip on the northeastern side

of the claim, but I was salivating at the other side even before I knew that there might be an ancient bench up there. We checked on our

way out and finally found the path down to the other side of the river and plan to go back there. Camping on this claim is somewhat

challenging for a large group. There is a flat area mid way up the ravine that old timers evidently used as a base camp. There is a fire pit

there as well. I have no Idea what is on the other side of the river as far as camping spots go and kinda worry because there are sooo

many boulders on the claim. I feel like we got lucky to find the camping spot that we did. It isn't visible from the river, we kind of just

happened upon it while exploring the claim when we first got there. I would think that there must be some place to camp on the inside

bend. It might take some searching though.

We had a great time on our trip over all. We found some gold, but much less than we thought we would. We picked a spot to dig that was

within the paystreak on the bank of the river, and that had trees close by because I brought a 4 ton hand winch and needed anchor points

for moving boulders. We moved a ton of boulders but clearly this area was well mined in the past, that is not to say that there isn't still very

good gold on this claim. I suspect that there is, and will be more diligent next time to find where it is hot. The place where we dug was smack

dab in the middle of the most commonly dug area. Access was easier and everything there was convenient. I thought that since we were

moving boulders that it wouldn't matter where we dug as long as we were in the paystreak, that nobody would have dug under those boulders

for over a hundred years. I may have been right, but we were finding bullets and other debris even 5 feet down. That particular spot that we

were digging was all but played out.

This was a great adventure though and I cant say enough about this claim and the potential for good gold. There were chunks of Quartz the

size of Volkswagons on and in the hillside! The quartz is just busting out of the ground everywhere! Also, if you like to fish, bring your fly rod!!!!

Sounds and looks like an awesome adventure! A simple question . . . Why did you choose to go to that claim? Did you read about it in the Pick & Shove Gazette when we did the "Claim Review?" Did another member let you know that was a good claim worth playing on?

Call in and we can help you upload your pictures into an album.

I believe there is color there, ya just gotta find it.
Been there a few times myself and have not done well, color yes but not enough......its never enough

I have talked to a fellow that has a claim above the next claim up, and finds color, so its gotta be there somewhere.

AS you said, gotta get to the other side down around the bend.

Thanks for the pics, next time less pics of the rock pulling, and a pic of the goods would be nice.

I chose Nugget trap 2 in Plumas county actually because of the way it is written about in the manual, but getting there, or what I thought was there, it turned out to be a bust and we chose another claim in that area that sounded like it might be good. The Nancy's gold claim was a newer claim and I went there thinking that maybe it hadn't been dug much.

well William, we found 1/3 of a gram in 4 days.... I don't think you would be able to see it in a pic... Last year I got 4 grams in 3 days and the year before that me and a buddy got 5.5 grams in 6 days near the bridge to nowhere outside of Azusa California, but we hiked way up there and were in a rich spot...

BTW, I am fit and a spry 44 years old. I am a building contractor and can run backhoes etc... If anyone leases a claim in Alaska to go for big gold with a large Trammel and other equipment. Please consider me as a possible team member.

    Michael,

Thanks for the great report and pics...

I hit Nancy's Gold back in September 2012.  I creviced and bedrock busted all day, hardly found any gold for all the effort.  I busted some BIG slabs, in some good spots (or so I thought) and ended the day with a few nice flakes and some fines.  Not much.  VERY challenging terrain, bushes, boulders.

Here's my Gold Adventures Trip Report for that year FYI:

    http://goldadventures.cre...-oct-2012-t1452.html

Scroll down to 27 September for the Nancy's Gold part.

Overall, I was very disappointed.  When I sample panned various gravels in the bars, benches I found almost NO black sand.  I could have done better at Mineral Bar in 1 hour than I did here all day!

Anyways, maybe I just wasn't "reading" things right for that claim...

GOOD LUCK in the future there!

    Cheers,

I was at that claim a few months ago while visiting Northern California. I had to stop in a little town and buy a pan and a scoop. That's pretty much all I had. That's some steep country! I went down the trail and down stream by a big tree. I scooped up a number of pans of material from the hillside as well as some of the crevices near the waters edge. It was all small but the was color in every pan. I brought home a large vial of black sand and ran it through my blue bowl. Definitely wont make you rich but considering it was only enough black sand to fill up a pill bottle, I think it wasn't half bad.

When you were sample panning how far were you going down to take a sample. In my mind.....I would think that if I dug a 3 foot hole my chances would be better. But dont know if that is really possible with all the rounded rocks that need to be removed. I have not yet gone out and tried areas like this since I am just starting. I cant even think that just taking sample in the 1st 1 foot of cover material would even yield anything.

Just wondering since you went out early in the mornings in these locations, what is the wild critter situation like. I have this resident thought deep in my brain about surprising a bear or big cat or even snakes, and not having any means of defense with me.....just because of the strange laws of the Golden State. Ever have any issues? Also....what are bugs like mosquitos or deer flies?
