I am a returning member to GPAA after several year of being gone. I revived my GPAA mining guide last week and after reading a few pages I found I have 2 questions.

    1) on page MG-3 it says I need to have with me A GPAA prospecting permit, mining guide book and GPAA membership card. I have the book and membership card. Where do I get the GPAA prospecting permit? All I plan to do in CA is pan and metal detecting.

    2) where do i find out if a clam is still GPAA or someone has pulled the clam and is no longer a GPAA clam?

The permit should have been the other card with you membership card, if they still send them.  All updates since the guide was printed are in the Pick & Shovel, and are online.  Go to the "Learn" tab, "Pick & Shovel".

Or, call the GPAA office and ask them for the answer on a specific claim

The active claim are listed in the online mining guide, if or when we receive notice from owner that a claim is to be removed we remove it from the online mining guide. So if it shows up on the online guide it is open for minerals. Checks for roads being open or closures due to fire would be something to discuss with the local chapter or surface management agency.
