Looking for experienced prospector/s in Virginia that would like to teach me alittle bit. I have a small dredge 1"1/2. Panning kit and 2 sluices. Purchased some paydirt off ebay to pan at home, went up to Contrary Creek last weekend with the dredge but come up with nothing. Granted I didn't stray far from the bridge and it hadn't rained in a couple months there so water was extremely low. Did talk with a father and son out there looking for garnets. Would like to be a little closer to Roanoke if possible heard some stories about a few places having some color.

Edit: Forgot to add looked at claims in my area and doesn't seem like any available, GPS Coordinates not showing up.

Edit 2:  163 views, 16 days no replies guess no GPAA members in VA have seen post.

Guess no one on here is in virginia to much. 725 views, 315 days since my first post. No replys but found more info with local club. CVGP has been more helpful then GPAA. And they have private properties to prospect on. If anyone is interested in joining just do a search on the net for CVGP and come to a meeting. Friendly group and members are growibg every year

Price is $100 a year unfortunately I only went out once but did get a half gram off claim 1. Did meet aj of au79 prospecting {youtuber} at the meeting. Letting my gpaa membership lapse since at this time I can't get to any of their claims until I get some vacation time with my new job. I do fortuenately have a creek near by that I can get some small gold out of. 2 grams total from about 20 trips lol.

This is their meeting place unfortunately there is no meetings currently because of covid19 but their website does allow you to download the application and mail in fee for the claims.

Hello William, Heather & Jose. I am in Culpeper and could get to Contrary Creek for a weekend or day out. I'm new to VA so still looking for sites to go to and the local prospecting laws. One resource I found was https://thediggings.com. I was able to pull up old mining locations. While they are mostly on private property the rivers nearby may be a good place to try.

Would like to but unfortunately my job labeled us as essential and reduced our hours to just above what unemployment wouldn't pay partial so had to use all my vacation time up to keep me going. Don't know when the next time I'll make it out to contrary. Wish the old vagold forums were still open they had some really good info on it about areas tested on the contrary if I find my backup of the test locations I'll upload to google maps and share them.
