the online guide should be the most updated of all our material as a person in-house puts information in there as he gets it. Usually within a few days.

As Walter said, the online guide should be the most current. A lot of that depends on information provided by people who have visited the claim. If you visit, please fill out a claim report. That will help the next guy know he's reading recent information.

Crystal Hill Area has no directions or coordinates.
Gorbert Association has Ingress and Center of Claim coordinates only.
Flat Foot has Ingress and Center of Claim coordinates only.
Guess It Has has Ingress and Center of Claim coordinates only.
Cactus Needle has Ingress and Center of Claim coordinates only.
OHMI #23 has Ingress and Center of Claim coordinates only.
I'm in the area and plan to check these out within the next week.

None of the claims have corner coordinates. They have ingress and Center of claim coordinates only. If I remember correctly GPAA marks it’s corners with 4 inch white OVC with a red stripe at top. This should help you find the corners when you are on the claim. Hope it helps.

Why don't the majority of the claims listed have corner coordinates? I think that would be one of the most important pieces of information you could provide in the listing. Would it not be beneficial to the members using the Claims Guide to include corner coordinates? As a new member and new to prospecting, I certainly don't want to inadvertently wander onto property that I don't have permission to be on and I would rather not spend half a day tracking down corner markers after traveling 11 or 12 hours to get to a site.

I know the office has the corners because you have to list them in the paperwork you submit to make the claim. I think THINK that it may be a space issue. Knowing the Center point and where to get into the claim gets you started. Unless you are going to stay right by the corner marker, you always have a chance of accidentally goung over a line. Again! I hope Walter or Kevin chimes in here, but I do think it is a case of deciding what was most important to have versus size of the databases and servers involved.

Hi guys. I'm also new to this prospecting stuff, and there's a lot to learn. I noticed in the printed version of the mining guide they usually have the corner info. I'm a bit confused about one listing in the Maricopa group (AZ AU #1 & #2) where the Northern coordinates for the NW and the SE corners are the same. ???

I put in points that many times are taken out due to page size or allowances for printing. Most of the maps in the Pick and Shovel have more coordinates that you can refer to as there is more lee way.

You will find that AZ AU are in a group that was updated in the Pick and Shovel on April May 2016 page 9 & 10 in the online version. Just as a note Dumb Luck is no longer available for use by GPAA members. You will find that joining claims many times will have coordinates that are the same as the corners are the same location or if pressed for space may be left out.

To find corners of claims, I look in the hard copy claims guide first. From there, I look at the map to see where it lies in the Public Lands Survey System (PLSS). The map or text included in the claims guide usually has a Township / Range that narrows it down to a 1 nautical mile square. From there, I can find out where in that section of land the claim lies. Using an online map, like from geocommunicator or mylandmatters.org, I can then zoom in and get the corner marker coords. That are good enough to put in a GPS and walk to the corner marker. I find the GPAA claims I've been to in AZ are marked by either a white PVC pipe, a wooden marker, something else, or maybe nothing. Can't help it if a cow knocks one over, it gets washed away in a storm, or a vandal takes it. Also, I can access the county records through the county recorder, on line, and get the claims map.

Mylandmatters.org is amazing, a treasure trove of info for those seeking to stake a claim, or find out info about our public lands.

I also thought there was a public access area around quartzite that was withdrawn and the BLM allowed people to metal detect or mine. I didn't see that in the guide. I thought it was something like 1600 acres.
