    Dennis,

Hg is quicksilver, also known as mercury.

It is highly recommended if you don't know what you're doing, don't mess with it.

It has contaminated many old time mining locations.

I would recommend you stay away from mercury unless you have been taught the proper procedures and have the proper equipment to work with it, and know how to use said equipment.

Breathing the vapors is a quick way to cause all kinds of problems, and prolonged skin exposure is the same.

If you have ever heard the expression "mad as a hatter", that was from the days when they used it in making hats, and the workers would have mental issues due to the exposure.

Most states have recommendations on fish consumption due to mercury levels in the fish from legacy and or naturally occuring mercury.

I hate to be blunt, but since you had to ask what it is, you have no idea.......Leave it alone for now.

I WASN'T GOING TO USE IT, DON'T WANT TO RUIN MY POTATOES RECLAIMING IT!
JUST LIKE TO LOOK AT IT AND BE AMAZED AT IT! I HAVE A COUPLE SWITCHES THAT USE MERCURY TO LIGHT THE LAMP!
I WOULDN'T EVEN OPEN THE BOTTLE UNLESS I WANTED TO TRANSFER TO HEAVY DUTY BOTTLE.
BUT I BET YOU ALREADY HAVE IT IN ONE!!
    THANKS.

    Denny,

Do a google search on Hg or mercury

** Handled the wrong way could be very detrimental (BAD) to yours and others health **

It is not high grade ore but was used back in the day before they realized it is deadly, to amalgam small gold for collection and processing

They used Merc to purify? The gold they had or something to that effect. But it’s like dead good isn’t worth using it I’m actually surprised you can legally sell it without special licensing.
I was going to go the augua ria? Method for processing computer chips etc got the chemicals and all the science lab stuff then I finally after months of research found one place stating the vapor off of the stuff will eat thru any metal. Had to be in a glass container during the process and vented but vented where no one ever will be or go and around nothing metal so. I still have all the science lab beaker stuff and tubes n alcohol burners and chemicals. No idea what to do with it just sits in a big box in my office cabinet

Bill, not used to purify. Gold and mercury have an affinity for each other. Fine gold collects in the mercury, then the whole works is put in a retort, heated until the mercury vaporizes. Works like a still, only the good stuff stays in the heating chamber. The mercury vapor is cooled and returns to its liquid metal state berift of the gold.

Like your recovery setup, not something to fool with unless you're trained and have a good retort.

Most jurisdictions don't allow mercury in processing anymore and haven't for years.
