    Hello everyone.
My name is Chris I am new to both GPAA and gold prospecting in general. I am retired Army so summers I always find something to do with the kids. Normally we go to new states. This year I want to take the kids somewhere to pan for gold. I live in Texas but im free to travel anywhere in the lower 48. Any suggestions of where to go that we would find at least a flake and where we can camp? (I dont plan on getting rich lol) however, would be nice for the kids to find a flake or two to make them happy. Ive been doing some research both on GPAA and google. Im finding a lot of mixed reactions to where you can and can't and where you can and cant camp. Any info would be greatly appriciated.

not knowing where you might end up make some difference .As far as camping if the claim is on blm land you can camp on the claims up to 14 days .The llano river in texas has some gold in it as some people go there .There is a place in New Mexico that has some camping and gold mining .It is outside of Roswell .You might check on it .Most of the claims hear in Arizona you would have to take water with you to pan as most here is dry work.Check and see if there is a chapter close to you as they can be of some great use .

    Hi thanks for the reply.
I will do some looking into those locations.
    Also,
Where i end up is all up in the air. I love to travel and take the kids to new places. Thats kind of what I am trying to figure out is where a good place to go is. And I'll set my GPS for that location. . I don't mind going anywhere in lower 48 as long as we can camp and have fun digging.

Welcome to the world of gold.  Should you find your way to Oregon, our chapter has adopted the three claims of the Quartzville group.  All are easy access, with dispersed dry camping available, or campgrounds within a 1/2 hour or so.   With enought notice, I think we could arrange a chapter outing and get your feet wet, so to speak.  Year around streams through all of the claims, fishing and swimming are also available.  Also ATV trails and beaches are within an hour to an hour and a half.

Feel free to PM me if you end up in our area.

Chris, checkout the Round Rock GPAA. They have an outing in Llano the first weekend in May. Great family event. The "SLAB" in Kingsland is a good place for family to practice. Very little gold but close to you and accessible. The Round Rock GPAA also has members that live in your area. www.roundrockgpaa.net

Chapter directory under the community tab up top, as well as in every magazine and pick and shovel. Contacts listed as well.

Good luck on the move, know it's not fun, got one coming in the next couple of months myself, but at least saying in gthe area.
