So I downloaded some maps from goldmapsonline.com and the Lode and Placer claims are all around my campsite. Can I dig and pan anywhere in the boxes?

    Thank you for your time.

To mine or prospect you will need to have permission to do what ever activity you wish to do from owner or authorizing agent, authorized to allow use of claims. You should also be advised that mining claim maps should only be used when from a source that is the owner or authorizing agent for giving you permission to work the claim. Many maps of claims from sources other than the owner of the claim or latest map document from the original locator on file at BLM are many time not accurate or give a general area that may not actually depict the claim boundaries.

For Goldmapsonline, orange indicates an active placer.
Yes, as this is a valid, current claim, permission from the owner IS REQUIRED.
Be sure to check what quadrant was staked as it only puts a square around an entire 160 acre area, whereas, claims are often 20 acres for individuals holding claims.
This can be done by clicking within the orange box.

Use the LR2000 from there if you feel inclined to contact the owner of the claim

use the blm LR 2000 to see if these are closed or active claims if closed claims you can prospect on them ie sampling on them for minerals and then maybe stake your own claim

Also know that if a claim is unpatented (property is not owned by claimant), and is forest circus land or not owned by a private party, you can camp, swim, hike, party naked, shoot anything legal EXCEPT mine or mineral entry.
A claimant can only legally stop you from mining or mineral exploration, that's it.

Some people say they own the land when in fact they only have rights to minerals.

Do your due diligence, research and know your rights.
