    Hello Fellow Prospectors,

I am going to Coker Creek GPAA claim in Tennessee in the next few days to prospect. I have tried to contact the claim owner but I think I have the wrong number. I am very excited I have two sluices and a lot of great pans to mine with. If anyone has any information on this claim. Maybe if there is a new number or a sign in area there i need to know about. Also if anyone has done some work there it would be greatly appreciated if you had any spots that you remember being promises. Well I will update everyone on how we do.

    Thanks Friends!!

Hello Sheila, welcome to the world of prospecting and mining. Here is the link to the Coker Creek chapters web site and forum. There are some great folks on the forum, they can answer any questions about the claim. The presidents name is Chuck Pharris, he's very helpful. As far as I know you only have to sign in. make sure you have your mining guide, member card and mining card with you when you're on any GPAA claim. Paul

    Hi Sheila and welcome.
Where do you live now? Ever consider moving out west like the Black Hills of South Dakota? Beautiful country and pretty good gold.

    Hi Sheila,

I have lived here in Colorado for almost 22 years. We have a rich history of gold and silver, hard rock and placer. We do have gems, but I don't know a lot about them. If you have the Weather Channel there is a show called "Prospectors" . This is filmed west of Colorado Springs. That may be of interest to you. Just repeats now. I think new shows will be on this fall.

The Outdoor channel has the Gold Fever show which this weeks show was about Colorado.

The weather here is great. It's a very nice state to live in. If you have any questions, just ask. I'm a newbie with the GPAA and local chapter and have had an interest in mining for a long time. I will be going out to a claim on Friday then to a chapter outing on Saturday. So I have the fever to. Work get's in the way all the time.

    Regards,

    Scott

I am aware and in LOVE with those shows. Prospectors & Gold Fever are like my personal college( not as expensive). They showed me that it is possible to follow my dreams of being a miner and rock hound!!!
I am interested in Gems and want to buy a claim in that area or maybe Oregon. I am in research mode right now and getting an meeting and some outing under my belt first. I am willing to take chances though. Any knowledge would be delightful..

In Oregon.  Quite a bit of gold in the southwest corner of the state as well as up in the northeast corner.  Some in the central part around John Day, and in the mid Willamette Valley from Salem down to Cottage Grove.  Got several GPAA claims in the state as well as public areas that have been set aside.  Some gold on the beaches, but have to work for it.

As far as rocks and gems, have sunstone in the southeast part, all kinds of obsidian from black through  the various "sheens", silver and gold, rainbow, mahogany, and some snowflake.  All kinds of petrified wood, agates and jaspers galore, thunder eggs in a couple of areas, some garnet.

World famous John Day Fossil Beds in the central part of the state.

    Sheila,

Try www.coloradoprospector.com and you could Google Colorado gems. I'm sure you thought of that. Great state for rock hounding.Lot's of gem and mineral shows. The boy's and I met Rich F. from the Prospectors show at a local gem and mineral show. That was cool. He would be a good guy to talk to about getting a claim and where to look.

Hi Sheila: For your Coker Creek Adventure.. it was pretty easy to find, about 25 miles or so off I-75 on a paved road. A 10 to 20 foot wide creek runs thru the property. A welcome center store is just up the road about 3 miles where you can get a Mining Permit. Good Gold is found in the creek by sluicing the sandy, stoney material, a classifier does help. Please don't dig in the creek banks. Camping is permitted and there is usually people on the property.

This is a GPAA Claim and you must be a member to prospect or camp. Visiting is Free! The Claim is in a very pretty area surrounded by Private Property.
