Hi guys. I don’t know how many of you uses your GPS for accessing claims but I emailed onX maps here in Montana because they make land ownership software for your Garmin.

I asked them if they could make a layer in their program with mining claims. They responded that if enough people asked for it they would make it! So if you could go to onXmaps.com and go to support and contact them about this layer, maybe we could get them to do this. I know it would be really handy in the field for knowing if you were on the right claim or not!

    Thanks for your help, Brent

Sounds like a good idea I use onxmaps too for hunting and geocaching. but I found a online site that I have been in putting all the coordinates Id like to go to with this software.

https://www.geoplaner.com I just save it and then upload the file into my onxmaps software on my phone' works good for me. I'm sure there is other software out there that would do this job too. but this is simple enough for this retired guy.

GPS is a great tool for those that have it (which does not include me. Township, range and section would be nice.

every federal unpatented mining claim information is available on the BLM's LR2000, https://reports.blm.gov/reports.cfm?application=LR2000

The program has lots of reports, you will be looking for the mining reports towards the bottom of the web reports page. I always use only the claim name, sometimes I include the county. Always use all caps with names. The reports have acreage, serial number, registered owners names and MTRS with ¼ section designation.
