Does anyone here use a Falcon MD20? Im thinking about getting one to help locate gold, does it work like it claims? Thanks for any input.

Depends on how you want to use it. It works great for checking rocks and locating gold in cracks and crevices. I feel it should be part of the prospectors tools.

Now, wouldnt a Gold Bug 2 be a more appropriate purchase? It can detect super small gold, and that 6" coil is killer. I know its a bit more expensive, but really can have multiple uses campared to the very narrow range of the MD. Just my input.

I do hear a lot of good things about the Gold Bug 2 especially how easy it is to use. I will have to think this out.

I feel that a MD20 is an essential tool to have for pinpointing or tracing pay layers and veins especially in tight spots where a full sized gold detector is impractical. It's also nice for doing quick checks of your tailings for fine gold loss. I'd hate to be without mine but with that said it's nice to have both.

The Gold Bug vs the Falcon is apples vs oranges. The Gold Bug is designed to look for metal (gold) by being able to move over a wide area and search to 12 inches deep or so on average. The Falvon is really meant for ore sampling. It allows you to see if the ore or quartz stones you have contain gold before crushing them. Both great to have, especially in the Western US.

I went for it and ordered a Falcon I figure any edge would be worth it.

Was just thinking about hot rocks when gold detecting. I think that if you save your hot rock finds, you can double check them with a Falcon detector. Then you're sure it's not a possible gold nugget or gold inside.

I have been using it to check quartz, I found a softball sized chunk that sets the Falcon screaming when I put it to it. Now I got to bust that baby open and see whats hiding in there.

What was inside that piece of quartz?

Also I am selling my Goldbug 2 for 550 USD if you are still interested in that machine too!

    Let me know!
