Has anyone had any success panning for gold in the Yellowstone River? I live a couple of blocks away from in in the Billings, MT area.

Yup, the river does have gold, but all I can find so far is flour gold. I will post a pic when I get a chance.

I worked it in September 2018- We used a grasshopper- aka Homebuilt High banker with indoor/outdoor carpet - sieved a 20 screen to pan the flour gold- just get a pan from the gravely sand and check it out down by the river side- Yellowstone 16 miles upstream from Billings- John

When I first started prospecting, some 20 years ago, the Yellowstone was the first place I ever found gold. In the Miles City area. Since then have found more and it's very fine flour gold but heck.... it's gold!!

In 2015 I did, and was still very green to prospecting. South of Belfry, mostly fine/small flake gold. Secret Revealed!…A local old-timer in Cooke City shared information with me about Yellowstone National Park (where you are not allowed to prospect!). Said the road along Yellowstone Lake was intended to hug the lake all the way to the fishing bridge, except the area where it now leaves the lake and cuts through the woods was diverted because the road crew struck GOLD! He said “you could literally peel back the forest matting and pick up nuggets”!…I’ve had dreams of that ever since but don’t care to wear handcuffs.
