Try downloading a PDF copy of the CA State Minerologist’s report from the early 1900’s. If there were any significant discoveries up until that time, it would be listed there.

Many miners underreported what they found or didnt report anything at all. Are you going to give away your favorite fishing hole or spot on the ocean. No. Back then times were more ruthless and cutthroat and people surely didnt want to pay taxes. Large finds back then were not possible to keep quiet about also, if it was a real mine. Most old reports are those from the USGS geologists sent out to get information.

Was not asking for specific location, just question out of curiosity. I happen to live just below this mountain range, so just curious.

You might have misunderstood my note....I was only implying that its very hard to find old records that were mostly accurate. After all the best way to find gold is to be in areas where gold was found, and get out and study the geology to give yourself the best chance. SMM our not quite in the known gold belt of CA.

No worries, I don’t believe there is any gold in these mountains at least along the coast. Gold is where you find it. Poop

I did finally get this report from UCLA Archives and there is no mention of Gold in those mountains.
