We have been coming to the great state of Montana for 3 years now. I have been bitten by the gold fever! We went to Gem mountain and found a lot of sapphires. Now we want to find gold! I have been doing a lot of research but I am afraid to get on someone's claim and get shot. lol. I have 2 metal detectors but afraid to use them in Montana! We are staying near Philipsburg MT. We will be out there July 2nd through July 11th. So we are looking for someone to take us out and help us find gold and keep us from getting arrested. lol. I know about the Libby claim area but it is pounded by the public. Any advice would help. Thanks.

    Welcome William,

I know nothing about the great state of Montana
However, I count 7 GPAA listed claims in the MG hard copy
Must be someplace for you to detect
If nothing else, pound the Libby some more
    Research and practice
It is important to know physically know where you are, It has been my experience with the right attitude, usually if you do run into a claim owner, they will help you

Good Luck and get out there,
    Bill

I looked in my mining guide for the claims in Montana. I guess I was looking for someone to show me the ropes so I wasn't breaking any laws. I have been doing a ton of research. I am not a book learner. I learn visually so if some one could show me all the different rock formations that gold hides in I could take it from there. I am going to contact the field offices in Montana shown in the mining guide.Thanks.
