Hi! I'm a newby to GPAA as of today! This summer we've been panning in Colorado, with little success and are heading to CA. to visit friends in Auburn CA. for a few days. We would like to go panning near there for just a day or day and a half but know that there are a lot of areas closed and would love some help narrowing down the search. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks for any leads....

Auburn state recreation area right in the back yard.

Stop in to the Pioneer Mining Supply in shop in Auburn and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

The biggest issue your facing is lack of water. The state is reverting back to its early days.....dry and dusty.

Good luck and enjoy yourself out there.

In that area there is a GPAA claim out of Forest Hill, Nancy's Gold. It is about 35ish minutes outside of Auburn. Access there is a bit rough for the mobility impaired. The other option is the Bear River area in Colfax. There is a nice county park that has camp sites and a full day use area(no fee for day use). They don't allow any power equipment there though but panning and sluicing are perfect, not to mention gold is abundant but small. It is about 30 minutes up the highway from Auburn. This is one of my local chapters favorite spots due to the easy of access to the river, restrooms and paved parking. There is still water flowing and has no sign of slowing down since flow is controlled by the dams up river. There is little shade so a pop up is nice to have and sunscreen.

    Hi Joy

Just wanted to say Hi ... from another NEW member who just joined GPAA today.

I joined the website a week or two ago and after reading up about coming Prospecting Shows.... I drove down to the Sonora California Delta Gold Diggers Prospecting Extravaganza Saturday and Sunday 8/23 and 8/24 all the way from Eugene, Oregon. I bought myself a new Whites MXT Metal Detector and will be attending every show and visiting as many gold claims as possible in the near future !

    Nice group of people !

Nice to meet you and Happy Prospecting !

Dave, did you like the show? That was my local chapters first time putting on a show. We tried to pack as much stuff in as possible to keep people interested through the day. I was running the builders contest in the main building. I think it is great that we got people to come from as far as Oregon to attend.
