After a few couple of trips trying to get to this claim we finally made it. USFS signs are broken my cars GPS readings were off. We ran into a gate, closed for Mine Reclamation of the Jack Waite Mine Site.  I checked my phone for a bearing with the compass app and found out that it had coordinates on it after we had left on Sunday and came back on Tuesday only to find out that we were on the claim 2 days before but didn't know it.  About 1 1/4 mile hike to the claim from the gate. We did not have enough time to do any prospecting other than a test pan as it was getting dark. We did not find any color on the claim itself, but only took a couple of scoops from a small deposit of gravel. Lots of Mineralization in the area. Had a great time exploring and I am looking forward to going back with more time to see if I can get any corse stuff as the Gold does not have much time to make its way down the the main creek below. Claim is very steep and rocky. Please check out my Profile album. I cannot figure out the code to share photos from Photobucket.

This is a video posted in 2011 of the Jack Waite Mine Reclamation Project. The 'Kevin' Claim is just south of this site.

    Gareth,

Sometimes its just as much fun finding these places as find color.

Doesn't look like much 'reclamation' going on.
Curious look to the timber layed out.
USFS leave it alone, in 20 years no will ever know it was there.

thanks for taking us along, and hanging with your dad.

Was the gate locked? The guy I spoke to said that project was over and that it was ok to drive through the gate. He did say when you get to the bottom, the road was supposed to be washed out and they have no plans to fix it because it keeps washing away but it should be a lot closer than the gate. I may try to get up there myself be fore the year is out. Good luck!

Yes, the gate was locked, both sides, East and West. If it was unlocked it would be a lot easier. I would like to clear a spot for a tent and fire ring one of these days. I did not have time to do any panning so if you go, let us know.

Do you think the water level is to high to get up into the area at this time? I am wanting to go check it out.
