Ok, So yesterday was my official breaking of ground in search of the good stuff. That's as greenhorn as it gets right?. I went on a GPAA claim in San Bernardino Mts.(Yes I'm a member) I went there the week before but couldn't find the claim. This time I went straight to it. Anyways, I went into the thick of it and could see spots that others had dug. I looked at the terrain and didn't go to the current dried up stream flows but looked at it with a longer timeline.... Then I picked a spot and started shoveling.

After three concentrated buckets being thrown into my drywasher, I started panning it out. GOLD! And not just a little. I found 3 small pickers and a bunch of small flakes.

After 2 hrs of digging and a hole about 3'x3' the sun was dipping so I packed it out. The gold found didn't cover the gas expense to get there but for 2 hrs of work I could imagine what a weekend of it would do....... I'm now struck with the fever! Now if I only had a good mpg truck instead of my dog of a jeep.

Kevin, that is a mighty fine show of color for the first time at digging, congratulations. You did better than I did my first try at it, forty years ago. Best of luck and have fun out there.     Ron

    kevin,

Some nice lookin stuff ya got there, very nice.
Kinda keep in mind that weekend dig may or may not be better, ya gotta keep lookin.

If you are out there to pay wages (as Tom says), your in the wrong business, not to say you cant find the 'lode', but chances are you wont.
Your out there to enjoy your surroundings, being one with nature, enjoying your time alone or loved ones, or just ones your with.
The areas I frequent no cell service (yeah), barely any radio, except for the occasional dirt biker very quite, water trickling (when there is water).
    Enjoy your fever.

oh, very understood. No way do I think I'm gonna get rich. I like jeeping, I like digging, and I like nature. Why not try to get paid doing it all together.

That is a very respectable amount of gold for a full days work on a lot of claims. Be proud, seems not only do you have the fever but a good eye for where to look. Hope to run into you out here, good hunting.

Right on Greg. I drive all the way from San Diego which is like a 300+ mi round trip. I'm gonna be heading up there again for a few days this time come this Sun, Mon, Tues.. I don't have weekends off and work graveyards so a weekend run would be hard to impossible. Also just a heads up, hwy 18 is closed off from 8am to 3pm Mon-Thurs until the 30th of October for construction and the 38 is closed today for I don't know how long .... Pretty retarded actually. I don't have room for a passenger as I drive a 2 dr jeep loaded to the gill with supplies.

The picture looks like I hit the mother load but those are pretty much flakes and 200's. After I removed the magnetite and black sand and collected what I could, it looked much more pathetic. That pic was also looking down the barrel of the sniffer. Regardless, I was impressed that I even saw one piece....   If your up there, or anyone else and you see a red jeep, Say hi!
