My 2 cents. Seems like carpet would be harder to clean out. I have heard some folks burn their carpet at the end of the season and pan the remains, since you can't completely clean the carpet out. I agree with Bill Hall. Rubber mats would be much easier to do. Shallow or deep ribs? Or Gold Hog matting? If you're running expanded metal, then consider miner's moss, but the deeper type since it won't fill up as soon as the stuff that mashes down. Wayne My sluice is a Gold Hog stream sluice 10 inch with the 2 sets of mats. Cleanouts are fairly simple and can be done in a 5 gallon bucket in the stream.

When I try new maps out on the sluice, if it is no under the riffle, I will get a thin piece of metal on each side of the sluice, like a metal ruler and take two to four wood clamps like clothespins and use that to hold it in place to see if I like it.
