Don't know of an app, not my thing. Most BLM ground is open to detecting, unless you are on someone elses mining claim, or the area is listed as an historical site.

Check with the local district office and ask about the area you're interested in.

No you need to do a lot of research.

Claim information is hidden in a way that it can't be digitized automatically to find "unclaimed land to metal detect." Need to do a records search in the county records and BLM database to find out for yourself.

That being said, there's things to make it easier like mylandmatters.org. Going there, click on mining claims, click on the state you want to go to, it will show you if its BLM land and also tell you what claims are active in a particular township, range and section, but will not draw the maps with GPS cords for you. That you'll need to figure out.

That, being said, there have been a couple of companies that have provided this data for places like Rich Hill and the Little Sad Domingo wash in Arizona and has the maps available, but these are subscription and are not updated with changes except a couple of times per year.
