I joined the GPAA a few years ago as a Lifetime member but, unfortunately, I have not been able to get to a claim as of yet. I've got some panning and sluice box use in a few other locations. I was just wondering if there was anything I needed to know prior to visiting my first GPAA Claim location?

Be sure you have your membership card and the mining guide in your possession while on the claim.
Check out the claim online to be sure it is still available.
Read your mining guide. It has a lot of this information, and more.

    And the usual...
Know where you are at all times and don't wander off the claim.
Leave it better than you found it.
Avoid conflicts with others if you can.
Check out local rules and laws. (Don't rely on information in the mining guide. It can change.)

    And the not so obvious...
Try and locate the mining claim postings. Although they are not required everywhere, if you find one that says something other than GPAA then you might be in for a conflict with a cross claimant.

Thank you for the tips Mark. I appreciate it and I'm looking forward to getting out there hopefully soon.

I'd like to add to what Mark said.

After you select a Property, there are three tab options "Getting there, Prospecting and Regulations Information". Look through these to gain a little more info. Some places for example are hand tools only, no dredge or drywasher ect.
