I just joined and was shocked that there are no properties in Virginia to explore. Where I live near Goldvein Virginia there are a lot of old gold mines in the area. I expected there would be some sites within the state. I also would like to find a person to go out with. If you live in Virginia and need a prospecting buddy contact me. I have found few areas that are public land near old gold mines, I used a metal detector around one today but the metal trash was impossible to work around. I will try again when it is cooler and less buggy. If you have any ideas on places to go in Virginia please help me.

Welcome Alice. Try contacting the state director, his information is in the magazine and on the website. He can probably put you in touch with other folks around you.
You can't file claims back east, and most everything is private property, so getting owner permission is required. The director may be able to help there as well.

I emailed the state director and had no answer. Very disappointing. Wish i could find someone to prospect with me.

Alice, seems to be an issue that's becoming more common. Try calling the office and talk to Anne. She might be able to pass your contact info to someone in your area.

I wish I could have seen all the states before I joined, I live in fairfax and was hoping to find some good spots to pan in Virginia legally.

I currently live in Virginia. I would love to go prospecting with someone. I believe there is a gold prospecting club here in Virginia as well that has access to some land claims. I will likely look into that as well at the start of the year. However, I would like to go out maybe a couple of weekends this year and try some of the creeks and rivers if possible.

Where do you live I would love to have someone to go with besides my dog. I am near Goldvein and have spent time in the Rappahannock and Rapidan rivers as well as several creeks. Let me know if you want to go out some time.

Yes I would like to go out for sure. I currently live in the Charlottesville area. I am able to meet up somewhere this Saturday afternoon or Sunday. Also most weekends atm are pretty open.

I have a place just south of Culpeper, I have not been down to the Charlottesville area yet. Email me directly and I will give you the info of a park with a very nice creek that I have found small flower gold. dogmom@k9dejavu.com Has a bit of everything. you can just pan or sluice, there are crevices I have dug into and I would love to dredge but I am not sure we can in the park. I will be available saturday afternoon.
