Hey there, I'm new here. Doing my 3rd season gold prospecting.
I'm starting HWY 49 tomorrow going up north and then head west to Happy Camp.
Anybody on the way, any spots,...
I travel with a camper and got all the necessary equipment.
    Cheers,

Stuck in Texas now but LOVE Happy Camp and recommend JPL1. Easy access and more gold there compared to my experience at the other GPAA claims in the area. Check out my prospecting reviews for the claim (especially the 10/16/2019 Successful Revisit). Bigfoot RV Park and Cabins in Happy Camp is a great place to stay. New 49er’s prospectors club headquartered across the street, they also have some awesome claims in the area as well…you can join the club or purchase a temporary pass (that is when I was last there in 2019). It’s chilly up there now so be careful if by yourself. I don’t recommend that you attempt to cross rivers now to access the bars opposite the roads like we did, too dangerous now…especially by yourself. Be sure to take your metal detector…a local familiar with the area told me about a fellow that found a one+ ounce nugget while detecting an old hydraulic pit in the area.

Bear and Bigfoot country. My former Sgt. (No nonsense type fellow) told me about a fishing trip he and a couple of friends made to a remote lake north of the area in Oregon. Caught a stringer of trout and staked it to a log on the other side of the lake to clean the next morning. He was the first one up at dawn and noticed what he thought was a bear attempting to get the stringer of fish…he yelled at it, said the enormous beast stood up and that they made eye contact for a moment. Said it turned around and walked away into the woods like a man…said it was NOT a bear.

Good luck and be safe 🤝,
    Brian Williams
