I have a Nokta Legend... I bought the pro-pack for the headphones, extra battery, etc, and it was $599 when I bought it about a year ago. May have gone up by now. The detector itself is $450 I think without the extras (extra battery, wireless headpones, etc).

I use it for general detecting, and have found a gold ring with it detecting in the really mineralized sands in southern OC California. Still haven't taken it to any claims to detect though, although that's the main reason I got the pro-pack (one of the goodies it came with was a really small coil) so I can't say how well it does on small pieces of natural gold.
