    Maybe a dumb question but why is it not common for the dredges to float a little higher providing a longer sluice or as I see a lot keeping the sluice from going below the surface?

    It's a balance between riding high or low
    The higher you ride the less material you can lift, plus accounting for the box drop angle
    In our dredging days running a 4" over under sluice, the tail did sink below water level
    however an 1" or 2" in the water did not have a negative impact as long as the motor was running with water flowing off
    Deeper could have an impact
