Went dredging today. I have a Gold Buddy 2.5 inch.  I think I want to toss the little perforated steel sheet that is supposed to protect the integrity of the fines right in front of the crash box. I have the laith wire looking stuff underneath it.The bolt that holds it in seems to be causing rocks to back up. Will I lose gold if I remove the plate?

Without seeing your set up I would say you might.

On the east coast we mainly find the fine gold so classifying our dredges helps prevent the bigger rocks knocking the gold loose in the sluice.

I even went down to 1/4" punch plate and extended it halfway down my sluice to help. Several guys I dredge with use a screen or classifier down their entire sluice box. That is over riffles and miners moss. If your getting back ups or the rocks are catching you might want move the bolt placements or attach the screen to the side of the sluice instead a bolt in the middle. I had a small dredge I had to do that to in order to get the best flow.

    Mario,

You would be better served by starting a new thread for your question, not piggy backing on another that others may not be interested in.

Good luck! There are only about 4 legal dredging operations on the Arkansas Headwaters.I don't know of any open to the public.
