Step 1 of 3

At the present time there are 3 lodes on the Crystal Claim. The 1st one found is the Jo Jo Lode. It starts up the ravine and runs North toward Hesperia. The Shadow Lode runs next to the parking area toward Hesperia too. The Sideways Lode runs almost parallel to the Shadow Lode. The best place to mine is off the Shadow lode (see picture of gold). They don't combine but cross in the ravine above. There is ancient river rock 5' below grade in this ravine. Gold is flakes, specks and fines in the top ravine. Rhino

O T 1 has 4 gold traps. Some old timer found gold on the claim and built these traps across the wash to trap the gold. The lode is shown on the map.

Step 1 of 5

used a huge puddle to high bank in using a recirculating sluice box I rigged up with a pump - we used the big puddle to operate and we were able to run all day with only 2 -20 amp hour batteries with no problem at all. the gold was all over in all the tailing piles. Fine stuff but plentiful as usual.

Step 1 of 1

I am visiting for three weeks and decided I would give this site a shot. I must preface this with my background.
I have never prospected for anything. I bought the membership upon a suggestion from a friend who lives in Barstow, CA and has found quite a bit of gold in this area. Since COVID hit, he is not available to teach me and I thought it wouldn't hurt to just go out and practice using my pan.
I took 5 gallons of water, my pan and a small pick hammer and headed to this site.
I followed the directions from others who had been there and made it safely. Upon pulling into the claim, I could see where others had worked so I chipped away some of those areas into a five gallon bucket and started working small bits at a time.
I did not find much, but considering I didn't know what I was doing, only used a pan to go through a small amount of a previously used site, and I only had five gallons of water, and I only spent about three hours out there, I think I did quite well for my first shot!
