There is small gold here, but it is hit and miss and you will work for it. Detecting was unproductive so we switched to panning. The gold here seems to be shallow and fine. We averaged 6-8 colors per pan working shallow dirt.
We also tried working the top of the caliche as it is hardpacked like concrete. We thought we would find some gold on the top, but we did not. I would love to explore further, as I believe cracks or pockets in the caliche could prove productive.
There is a pond with water on the property and it held out through the summer in 2019. I bring my own just in case. The regulars say that pickers up to a gram can be found on the upper end while gold gets smaller at the further end of the mine.
I think the best approach is to do a lot of test pans and when you find some good color, work it. The gold seems to collect in pockets, but this being an alluvial area, where the gold lies is difficult to say. If you work hard, you should at least get some color. If you get lucky, you might hit a pocket and do well.
Good luck and have fun!
