Beans Bacon Placer Gulch
Step 1 of 1
Beans Bacon Placer Gulch
i have been prospecting this claim for several years, usually a week at a time. I have never seen or had any problems with Bears, although i did harvest a Black bear years ago in a drainage off the main road. yes you can walk to the claim, which i did my first time in, that was the last as I prefer my 4-wheeler to get to the claim. At your 3rd creek crossing look to your left and you will see evidence of a stamp mill from the original miners ( I have struggled to find any history about this mining area). and also a drift mine that's been filled in. This is about where you can start finding gold, its small - 20 mesh. but your not really on the claim yet, as you proceed from the creek crossing up the hill to a straight section on the trial look to the left for the brown post. My first trip into Placer i never found any gold, now i find gold every time. but its small the best I can say is maybe a half a gram for a weeks work. But for me its not all about the gold, its just about getting out.

Nice claim
Step 1 of 1
Nice claim
Went down to check out the claim for a few days mid-June '21. Creek had just enough flow to run a sluice box. Definite potential here. Not too many spots for a tent. No signs of bear. I only stayed 2 days because the horse flies we're ridiculous!!! I can't begin to explain the swarms of them. Im outdoors more than not and I've never experienced anything like this. It was like your worst mosquito attack, with biting horse flies. I'm not sure if it was the time of year...but be warned. Other than that,I'll probably end up back out there for a few day if the flies are gone.

History in the area
Step 1 of 1
History in the area
If you are looking for history, try looking up these old mines. Iron Mountain-gold Hill Area. Silver King Mine. Surprise Mine and Ross Mine. They were all in the same drainage. You can find good info for mining with the App called Digger's Map and for bout 20 bucks you can unlock all data sets. Last time I tried to get down to the claim the trail was washed out. around 2012.
